- Description
This site would not be complete without some mention of the Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramid (BoP) - the idea that many companies could serve large numbers of the poor profitably with services and goods, if they were willing to adopt radically new business models. There is a book written by C.K. Prahalad, which was nominated number 1 business book of 2004 by Amazon.com. You can buy it here.
This concept seems entirely consistent with the idea of developing service markets, although it is packaged mainly for a different audience: larger companies. It probably therefore represents an important opportunity for the BDS community, for example to disseminate experiences to date to a whole new community of people likely to be interested in success stories.
A couple of BoP-related documents are posted below; the new WRI website is linked above. There may be a WRI/BoP event later this year, coupled with another major conference. Watch this space!
