Description
The Employment Promotion Programme (EPP) is a labour markets programme designed to assist South Africa to address the unemployment challenge. DFID has committed £2.15 million of support to EPP. The programme is managed by the Development Policy Research Unit and its governance structure is made up of representatives of SA's Presidency, organised labour and the organised private sector.
The Programme has four main areas of focus: support to evidence-based research on labour markets; the development of a framework for institutionalising Regulatory Impact Assessment across government, as endorsed in SA's Accelerated Shared Growth Initiative (ASGISA); support to change processes in labour market organisations to improve their efficiency and effectiveness; and support to the Expanded Public Works programme (EPWP) through a partnership with the Department of Public Works, which mainstream labour based methods into existing government infrastructure commitments.
